Aircraft design with safety in mind

The SportStar SL was designed with significant importance paid to outstanding flight characteristics and handling qualities to ensure safe and reliable aircraft operation. The result of this effort is an easy to fly airplane with precise handling, outstanding control harmonies and uncompromising stability with proven spin resitance, providing safe and reliable flying. Thanks to these qualities based also on the EASA JAR-VLA certified pilot training “Harmony” from which the SportStar SL design originates the airplane is popular for pilot training in flight schools worldwide.

Canopy and airframe meets crew protection requirement of EASA JAR-VLA

The canopy and airframe are designed to handle turnover conditions and meets all the crew protection reuirements of EASA JAR-VLA regulations. The canopy has a sturdy automotive type latching mechanism with an „Open / Closed“ indication on your glass cockpit or instrument panel. Seats are euipped with a 4-point seatbelt restraint system as standard. Optional safety package includes a fire extinguisher, emergency hammer with a belt cutter and first aid-kit.

Safety benefits of advanced all metal airframe

The SportStar SL has advanced highly durable all metal anodized and corrosion proof airframe. It is the only S-LSA aircraft that has riveted and also bonded construction for improved fatigue characteristics and prolonged service life. This build provides also better crash characteristics with elimination of dangerous unzipping in accidents and also smoother and quiter flight because drumming and flexing are absent. All heads of pop rivets are filled with mastic for high longevity of riveted joints and clean and smooth airframe surface.
The all metal airframe has been chosen for its significant benefits in area of high durability, safety, easy controllability, low maintenance costs together with proven long service life. Thanks to material stability all metal structures are durable and unlike composite structures aren´t suspectible to structural changes caused by UV radiation and high temperatures. Energy absorption by gradual breaking of metal structure improves crash characteristics, whereas composite materials can break or fragment dangerously.

Ballistic Recovery System

For further safety enhancement a ballistic rescue system is optionally available.
